High Koenji's shotengai (shopping street) is home to several Showa-era traditional wagashi shops that serve hand-crafted sweets every morning. Daifuku, dorayaki, and seasonal wagashi are loved by everyone from vintage-clothing enthusiasts to elderly locals. The signature daifuku — with its perfectly chewy mochi skin and generous filling — is a must-buy when visiting Koenji. Sellouts happen soon after opening, so go early. Located near JR Koenji Station in Suginami-ku, Tokyo.
